EMMA - multiculturalism embassador and its related thoughts

A fascinating website promoting multiculturalism, diversity and all kinds of humanities stunningly grab people's attention.

Emma, the online magazine, creatively demonstrate the multiculturalism through a wide range of human life - politics, community, education, lifestyle, entertainment and world.

Emma and its multiculturalism awareness

I am very much impressed by the site's outfit, it looks so ambitious, competitive, and also it has a taste of glamorous. The idea behind the site is just as stunning as the site itself.

To promote multiculturalism and diversity, understand cultural difference and accept it, be tolerant there is no good or bad culture, they are just different.

It seems quite an easy sentence to read, to write, or punctuated. But the hidden meaning behind the words are far more weighted and profound.

I once expressed my dislikeness or dissatisfaction of being staying with a foreign family (to a closed friend), the reason is because I think I just can't bear their way of living, more broadly speaking, I find it is very hard and incredibly difficult for me to adapt their life style.

Different stages when confronting a different culture

I think there are different stages when confronting different cultures. firstly, you see/feel/touch different kinds of cultures, then you know there're many differences compared it to yours.

Take a further step, you respond to this kind of different culture, you either accpet it or you just simply walk away, in this case you're not accepting it and indeed you utterly clashed with it I could say.

Some people even turned out to become much hatred, which is the fundamental reason where racism or discrimination coming from.

The other way around, you also can become very much like this kind of culture, and even wish to integrate with it, though the integrating process probably could harshly drive you crazy, it all depends an individual.

Key elements when confronting a different culture are openness, tolerance and trying to put your foot into the person's shose, trying to understand it.

How does social networking site react after Michael Jokson's death

I got the news of Michael Jackson's death not from the BBC, the Daily Mirror or the Sun. Indeed I got it from facebook - the most popular social networking site.

If asking how the social networking site reacts after the King of the Pop's death, I can tell you I was shocked not because of Michael Jackson's death, but because all of my mates on facbook paied their tribute to this super star coincidently.

No matter this chap normally in favour of keeping silent on facebook, or this lady is used to speaking out loud to keep in touch with her mates. They all wrote: MJ, Dead?!?

Media job ads at Guardian

Guardian Job website possesses fascinating media role section, it displays more than 700 ads related with communications/media field almost every single day.

However, if you look closely at each role, many of the jobs need applicants own plenty of media/journalism experiences.

For example, whenever you see press officer or communication officer on the ads, the hidden meaning behind the title is firstly, the org/company wants to see your fab contacts book, secondly, they want to know your record of selling stories to local/regional/national news org/company, the last one, excellent writing skills is a must, obviously for a press officer or communication officer, you have got to contribute concise, accurate, and even compelling (if you can that would be a plus) copy.

For a new graduate, better looking for roles have "assistant" suffix, as it provides you a sort of environment to learn, adapt new skills, and shadow experienced professionals.

Timing is also a very important skill when applying for a job, in general. Make sure sending your application to your potential employer promptly. Some job ads displayed on the web are deliberately (from what I think) made without any closing date.

If you deceive yourself into thinking "oh well, no closing date, seems I don't need to be in a hurry on this role, come back later then". However, most probably when you start to remember you have got to apply, the role has already full.

Cleverest one (diligent one, more accurately) will just apply, straight away.

UKIP and BNP beat major political parties through playing voster's anger

European election 2009 was an clear example for minor parties, like UKIP and BNP, benefiting from Labour's loss over recent MP expenses scandal. It strongly showed voters' anger, frustration and powerlessness towards the government, according to BBC news.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage used "hell of an achievement" describing his party's huge success. UKIP, campaigning to withdraw from the EU, beat Labour into the third place and managed to send 13 EMPs to Brussels.

The anti-immigration party BNP also managed to win their first two seats at national election. BNP leader Nick Griffin, the newly elected EMP defended his party is not racist, it is just "spoke out about the immigration problems."

Iraq war inquiry held in private

The government won the battle for holding the Iraq war inquiry in private, the BBC has learnt.

The opposition party had called for assurances on how much would be held in public, and lined up with Lib Dems urging changes within the inquiry panel - to include people with military and ministerial experience.

BBC political correspondent Carole Walker said the Lab's triumph was followed by Gordon's concession leading 299 votes compared to 260.

However, during the debate many Lab backbenchers criticised the government's proposal of handling the inquiry, and many of them said they were unclear about how much would be held in private.

Foreign secretary David Miliband said the conduct of inquiry needs to be independent and comprehensive, it is not a trial or impeachment but an effort to learn for the future. He also confirmed the inquiry would have access to all conbinet papers.

The key of the inquiry set out to exam weather Britian was "deceived" into going to war with Iraq.

from MP expenses scandal to BBC top executive's expenses revelation

BBC website publised its 50 top-earning managers' expenses claims yesterday in the wake of the MP expenses scandal, in response to Freedom of Information requests.

Speaking with the BBC Directorate-General Mark Thompson, he pointed out after the MP expenses scandal, the public expectation about openness, trustworthiness and every kind of value for money are becoming more trenchant, insistent and more vocal ever than before.

The list of expenses includes Mr Tompson's costly flying back from his family holiday in Sicily last October, to deal with the outrageous phone call made to actor Andrew Sachs by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand on the latter's Radio 2 show.

The coporation's spokesman said buying champagne is now banned, as traditionally gifts and flowers had been bought to starts was "part of the BBC's job to nurture talent".

Hazel Blears' thoughtless resignation and BNP's appalling victory

The Communities Secretary Hazel Blears' sudden resignation on the eve of the English council and European elections sparked off the party's loss on its local authoritoes' control, and crashed to its lowest share of the vote at the European elections.

Enormous regret

Blears openly express her enormous regret on the timing of her resignation on an interview with Manchester Evening News, she said that she didn't expect her resignation has caused party such a painful defeat.

She described her action of mocking the prime minister is "thoughtless" and she said "she should wait until after the election and the effect on the party is something that she will live for ever."

Public outcry

Ms Blears' resignation directly linked with Labour's bitter loss the later day on the European Parliamentary Election, and subsequently left empty spaces for BNP to seize two seats in Brussels, which caused serious public outcry.

The people of Salford blamed her drop in a Labour vote, and her action upset all the candidates that were standing on the election day and all the activists who were knocking on the doors.

BNP's victory

BNP is reportedly a party supports anti-immigration policy and will become serious force in British politics. Labour, Tory and Lib Dem these majoy parties should line up to start confronting BNP's appalling victory.

Gordon sets out "BNP is not going to survive in this democratic country."

Parliamentary reform

Hazels' resignation is caused by MP expense scandal, which she said "she had just enough at that point". Her failure to claim right expenses was "totally unacceptable", described by Gordon Brown.

However, according to all the 15 (so far) casualties who stepped down because of the expenses claim from Gordon's former cabinet. They all denied any wrongdoins regarding their second home expenses.

What I have understood from the BBC news, which states the MP expenses claim is within the rule but unreasonable.

I just thought what does it mean by "within the rule but unreasonable"? Shortly, the prime minister announced parliamentary reform proposal, has called for an end of "gentleman's club" of parliment, and claims that there should be an independent Parliamentary Standards Authority to oversee MP's pay and expenses.

End of term art showcase at Blake

This piece of news I am trying to imitate writing for local newspaper, which is very different format for writing online.

Students' works were praised as "brilliant and fantastic" by visitors yesterday at Blake College's end of term art showcase.

The college mainly exhibited BTEC Foundation Diploma students' art and design works, which include painting, illustration, photography, textile design and costume design. There are also plenty of short films displayed during the showcase.

Itai Ankrah, an illustration student, who did a string of cartoon characters, and developed both into digital imagery and animation, was highly recommended by his tutor Christopher Rainbow, he said: "These characters are truly creative and imaginative, it shows a strong indication of combing different approaches of producing art work."

Dereck Cluckie, Director of the Blake College said: "This is our 17th art exhibition to date. It is always a great opportunity for encouraging students to show their works, to share their achievements with their friends and families."

Speaking with one of the students at the showcase, Clare said:"I have really enjoyed the exhibition, the quality of the works are excellent, and tutors here are very good."

Though the college considerably planned yesterday's showcase, still there are some steps which need to be more orginised and work more sufficiently.

The showcase was held from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, 12 June 2009, and from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday, 13 June 2009.

MP expenses scandal

The most outrageous and appalling embarrassment among the "gentlemen's club" in UK politics was the recent MP expenses scandal, which was leaked by Daily Telegraph.

What is all about

The MPs in UK parliament are allowed to claim expenses on their second homes - the places they stayed when they attend Parliament in London rather than their constituency home.

However, in the last few months, the Daily Telegraph unveiled a list of goods that the MPs claimed, which are far more unusual than the normal things we could imagine.

People are furious towards MPs' outrageous behavious as all the taxpayers' money are just wasted, they claim that they want their money back, they want those ridiculous MPs to step down, and they want to chose someone who is really caring about taxpayer's money.

At least, there is freedon of speech

MP expenses scandal are wildspreaded in every single corner of the UK, people talked and discussed it wildly. I think at least, to some extend, people are able to speak out and not afraid of talking things, which are trully crucial and important for a society.

I'm not sure how the things would be settled in undemacratic countries, which I do believe this kind of corruption exist.

BNP leader confronted egg incident

BNP leader Nick Griffin was pelted with eggs by protesters outside the House of Lords when he was going to give a press conference there, according to Metro's report.

An democratic excuse

Griffin condemned that the police was ordered not to present in front of Westminster Palace by other two major parties and led the mob run wild, and he also claimed that his message should be delivered across the country, which in a way will reflect the true meaning of democracy.

However, the demonstrators argue that why should Fascist be voted to provide any seats in European Parliament? Is it still not enough that the catastrophe the WWII brought to us? Nick Griffin and his colleagues should abandon their places and leave it to other parties.
